Hello!
Welcome to this blog where we are focused on re-centering and highlighting queer history within historical discussions! Amidst current targeted political aims, an intentional and damaging effort to rewrite and erase queer history and historical figures has occurred throughout education and public history over the past several months. This blog is dedicated to counteracting and pushing back against the harmful rhetoric in place, and to remind readers that queer (used intentionally and not without thoughtful reflection to refer to anyone not cis-gender or heterosexual) individuals have always existed, and to remove them from history violates the field's ethical principles. While the posts on this blog will vary, many will explore historical figures, historical events, and even historical concepts that directly highlight queer communities and their resiliency and agency throughout history as we know it. We have categorized posts by both time period and geographic category in the attempt to make things easier to find; although this is not a perfect solution, we hope it at least assists somewhat in navigating through this site while we work through new ideas to make these posts more accessible and findable.
We are always open to suggestions on topics!
